One of the key objectives of the Lithuanian education system is to help the individuals and society to respond to the current major challenges and to facilitate the use of multiple opportunities. Pursuant to the provisions of the National Education Strategy for 2003-2012 and with a view to ensuring effective development of the education system, schools are opened to the labour market, including the development of social and cultural functions and implementation of the career education system. The elaborated and approved strategic documents - European Council Resolution on Life-Long Guidance (2007), The National Lisbon Strategy Implementation Programme (2005) and Vocational Guidance Strategy and Plan (2003) – stipulate that career design services (including career education services) would be developed so as to contribute to the development of social competences and life-long learning integrated into the training and studies programmes. Educational institutions are implementing the programmes for the development of everyday life skills.
