Abstract
The monograph is an overview and interpretation of the development of European thinking from the times of Ancient Greece to the present day and provides original insight about the future. The author distinguishes two main directions of European thinking, calling them thinking in width and thinking in depth. There is no doubt that thinking in width historically dominated by overcoming thinking in depth. The contemporary consequences of this dominance are the rationalization and technologisation of the reality and the human being. The author examines today’s human and social problems arising from such development of European thinking and potentially leading to the deathof humanity, and justifies the need to change the direction of thinking – back again into the depth. It is argued that this change has already begun in the depths of the modern human spirit and that it is manifested in concrete examples of contemporary philosophy.
