Kompleksinis pacientų saugos įvykių valdymas Lietuvos ligoninėse
Abstract
Patients contact hospitals for help, but every tenth of them incur damages as a result of adverse
events. The dissertation raises and analyses the problem of patient safety event management at
hospitals and defines the lack of managerial-organisational mechanism that forms the basis for
efficient and effective patient safety event management systems at hospitals to implement patient
safety strategies, programmes and measures based on best practice and international and national
recommendations.
The aim of the research is to develop a model for comprehensive management of patient safety events
(the Model) and substantiate its use at hospitals. Part One of the dissertation analyses the theoretical
issues related to the development of the Model and introduces the key principles on the basis of which
the Model was developed by taking into consideration the experience of patient safety movements.
Part Two of the dissertation discusses the methodical and methodological issues arising from the
performed empiric (quantitative and two-phase qualitative) research, including related organisational
aspects. Part Three of the dissertation introduces the results of the research and the Model
itself, including its composition, function, operational context and challenges in adaptation. Finally,
research-based conclusions and recommendations are provided.
