The business sector is the key player of wealth creation through innovation. Therefore, the policy actions directed at business innovation promotion are extremely important here. However, despite an abundance of strategic documents, the promotion of business innovation activity in Lithuania remains one of the most challenging tasks of national government. According to this, the scientific problem analysing in this work is: how to improve Lithuanian public policy initiatives for the promotion of business innovation activity?
A process of business innovation promotion is taken into account as a complex analysing the national and international policy initiatives, the best practise examples of other countries leading by innovation performance results as well as the needs and challenges of Lithuanian innovative companies. Additionally, an assumption of integral innovation and entrepreneurship policy formation is investigated as a possibility for more effective creation of environment favourable for business innovation activity.
The research results showed the weaknesses of national innovation policy in terms of innovative business sector development and revealed the existing barriers for business innovation activity in Lithuania. Agreeably, a model of Lithuanian innovation policy improvement and the recommendations for its implementation were proposed.
