Priority objective of waste prevention is to reduce amount of waste generated and to reuse recycled waste in various production cycles. In order to achieve significant results in the field of waste management, the initiative must be taken not only by the legislature, but also by the society itself. The amount of waste generated depends on many various factors. These include levels of economic activity, demographic changes, technological innovations, life-style and patterns of production and consumption. Waste prevention is an important strategic activity for every Member State to ensure sustainable, competitive growth into the future. EU Member States are encouraged to share their experiences and best practices in the field of waste prevention that the decisions and initiatives which led to significant results would be implemented in other countries. It is anticipated that co-operation between Member States with their waste prevention programs will bring significant results.
