Abstract
The purpose of the investigation is to ascertain what young people know about the symptoms of “club” narcotics overdose, lethal dose, abstinence symptoms and further sequences of narcotics usage. The investigation was carried out in a period of March and April 2012 in the Faculty of Public Security of Mykolas Romeris University among the first year students of state border, police and pretrial investigation officer specialties. 122 first year students – 52 males and 70 females - participated in the investigation. The results of the investigation have shown that respondents do not know all the features of overdosage that are caused by amphetamine, ecstasy, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and hallucinogenic materials: the knowledge of respondents has been assessed from 4 to 5 points. The worst knowledge has been shown on LSD and other hallucinogenic materials overdosage because only 40.1 % has been answered positively. There is a lack of respondents’ knowledge on the abstinence features of amphetamine, ecstasy, LSD and hallucinogenic materials on the other day of usage. Answers to the above mentioned questions are assessed with 4.5 points in a ten points system. The respondents do not know about the further sequences of the usage of amphetamine, ecstasy, LSD and hallucinogenic materials. Answers to these questions are assessed from 4 to 6 points. It is especially bad that the respondents know the sequences of LSD and other hallucinogenic materials: 42 % of students have answered well (according to the gender 39.5 % of male students and 44.8 % of female students). There are no significant differences between male and female students (p > 0,05).
