The doctoral thesis analyzes engagement forms of expression in gamified studies. Dissertation seeks to reveal the spectrum of engagement expression when gamification is being applied in university study course. It is oriented towards interdisciplinary approach and seeks to explore the common grounds between educational sciences and game studies in the context of engagement research. Pragmatism serves as the basis for the philosophy of the dissertation. It allows seeking the knowledge through practical action and reflection without the restrictions of orthodoxies or dogmas. Action research was used as the main strategy that would embody pragmatism in pursuit of truth. This research strategy is meant to combine theory and practice in order to generate scientific knowledge and to improve practical domains. The results of the research show that gamification application in university studies transforms strategies of agency in electronic study environment. It also creates precognitions for extended expression of forms of engagement thus inviting to rethink current understanding about engagement in educational studies. Application of gamification also influences the educational transformations of a lecturer. It comes through more engaging interactions between educator and learners in the context of gamified study course.
