The document is an important historical heritage. Every historical period determined different features of writing and drawing documents. Every document has to follow specific rules and orders that it would be a historically helpful source. Society development and new technologies enhance new requirements of drafting and using documents. The written documents are the main form of activity of state and human from the appearance of the script. The script in our country comes up in the period of Great Duchy of Lithuania, but the language of the script was old Byelorussian. Lithuanian was legitimated as state language only in the beginning of XX century in the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania. This article provides a brief overview of the development of document drafting in the period of 1990–2013. It is important to say, that the main documents were written in Russian long time – till 1988. It was impediment to the development of Lithuanian and language of documents. But the Act of Independence of Lithuania on March 11, 1990, conditioned political, historical and social changes in Lithuania. It made real foundation to the change of legislation of administrative work. So the aim of the article is to discuss the evolution of drafting of documents in the period of 1990–2013. During this time document drafting legislation varied, swapped time after time until the system of document management was modernized and sophisticated. The language of documents shifted too: translations of the Russian expressions were renounced and after some time the clerical language was standardized. The form of document has also changed. We have laws, which regulate the administrative work, but there are other actual problems as well. Nowadays, people have many opportunities to choose the features of fixing information. The saving and management of the documents get over and over major role in information society. Management of the documents has vision not to use paper in the future, they will be only electronic. That way of managing documents will economize time, it will be faster to get and to give information, it will be easy to find documents in archive and so on. But security, problems of revealing information and some other problems must be solved. It’s necessary to have strict requirements which must be used to protect electronic documents, to determine their managing, administration, to solve problems of protection of personal data using the electronic signature.
