Berufsorientierter Deutschunterricht im Polizeistudium: Erwartungen und Lernziele der Studierenden

The aim of the article is to reveal how practice of the professional German language should or can contribute to training of police officers. The findings of students’ (future police officers) survey are provided, which show their personal expectations, related to the aims of learning the professional German language. Having summarized the obtained results of the survey, one can claim that many students have a realistic attitude towards the significance of the German language in their professional activity. Their professional motifs make a significant impact on learning motivation of the German language. Learners primarily emphasize the importance of acquiring professional vocabulary and preparation for the examination. One’s abilities to communicate orally and read professional literature are pointed as the most important aims of learning the professional German language. Oral communication could facilitate interaction with individuals who come from German-speaking countries. Moreover, it would contribute to the improvement of Lithuanian police image. The ability to read in German would allow one to improve his/her qualification. Practice of the professional German language is also perceived as a possibility to prepare for studies in German-speaking countries.
