In order to minimize the potential tension between law enforcement officers involved in maintaining public order, and the arriving immigrants from the continent of Africa and Asia, the author will examine the peculiarities of communicating with immigrants when dealing with immigration-related matters in the context of public order investigations and public security. The author of this study will make recommendations which might be useful to authorities when dealing with immigrants for asylum and when making procedural investigation actions in criminal cases. These suggestions are based on the author’s personal experience, scientific literature analysis and interviews with immigrants that are now legally resident in Western Europe. Moreover immigrants bring their own customs. Not knowing these customs or disregarding them when conducting procedural investigative actions, particularly when questioning a female or using a police dog in a search, can provoke a negative reaction among immigrant communities and might even encourage hostility towards the Western world and values or even radicalization. Thus knowing migrant customs and religion will help avoid conflict situations between migrants and state institutions.
