This scientific thesis examines the problematic aspects of legal regulation and application of the selected rights of the data subject – access right, correcti---5847on right and right to be forgotten – in specific environment – online social networks. In addition, the thesis explores the ways of improving protection of the rights of the data subject in online social networks. The aim of the thesis is while analysing regulation and protection of the rights of the data subject in online social networks, disclose the regulatory gaps existing in this area of law and recommend possible options of solution. The scientific research revealed that both the provisions of the existing Data Protective Directive 95/46/EC and the provisions of the Regulation which will be applied from May 2018 exhaustively and adequately regulate the rights of the data subject, however, the basic problems were identified in the application of data subject rights. The research has shown that while implementing the rights of data subjects, the online social networks fail to comply with the provisions of regulation and, therefore, protection of the rights of the data subject is ensured only partially. In the light of specific features and global nature of online social networks and in pursuance of ensuring more effective protection in online social networks, the author recommends applying not only the legal rules, but also the co–regulation method.
