Abstract
Violent crimes are crimes against a natural person by using various kinds of violence: murders, grevious bodily harms and rapes. The article exhaustively analysis the development of violent crimes in post-war Lithuania, and, especially, during the last four years (1995-1998). In the run of these years, we observe general decrease in the rate of registered violent crimes and in the general rate of criminality from 1.6 per cent in 1995 to 1.1 per cent in 1998. On the base of expert evaluation of violent criminality tendencies and their social situation, the violent crimes development indices for the nearest several years (1999-2000) are foreseen, their social situation characteristics are pointed out, the proposals are made concerning the development of strategy and tactics for the prevention of violent criminality in Lithuania. The tendency of decrease in the rate of premeditated murders (with attempts to murder), the situation with rapes (with attempts to rape) will be stable, and the registered number of deliberate grevious bodily harms may rise (approximately by 6 per cent).
