The aim of this work was to investigate the point of view of studients of Higher Police School in Szytno and the Law University of Lithuania towards physical culture and their opinion regarding the level of a policeman’s physical preparedness. Using a special questionnaire 208 students of Szytno Higher Police School in 1998 and 208 students of the Police faculty of the Law University of Lithuania in 1999 were questioned. The mathematic processing of the data collected has been caried out. In analysing the data, the frequency of answers was evaluated (n - by the number of answers and proc. ~ by the per cent). For the data evaluation according to the per cent we have used the methods proposed by C. Vaisvila (1974). The generalisations of the material enable us to claim that the respondents of both countries positively assess physical culture and its impact on the health and overall training. The future officers treat physical culture as a significant factor in the development of profesionalism. The respondents stressed that the existing system of physical training and fighting self-defence is not efficient enough. Therefore, certain improvements are necessary.
