Abstract
The paper focuses on forensic psychological examination and its general functions. The global notion „a functions of psychological examination“ is distinguished from the notion „specific tasks“ of specific examinations and interpreted as more global goal, which is searched accomplishing an examination. Three functions are selected as the most general ones: assessment of one„s abilities, general psychological examination, and psychological prognosis. It is shown that just functions (and not specific tasks) determines the most important features of a specific examination: examination methods and tools, ways to formulate the conclusions, a role during pre-trial and trial proceedings, ways, how the conclusion of an examination is used in the decision of court.
