The article analyses the valuable relationships between social workers and their clients. On the basis of the analytical generalization of scientific literature and the empirical research conducted in the city of Vilnius, an attempt is made to shed some light on the relationships between social workers and their clients. The aim of the present article is to reveal the valuable aspect of the relationships in question. The research is based on the data obtained from the stereo questionnaire previously filled in by social workers and their clients so as to disclose their relationships, especially to find out what attitudes to values social workers rely on in their work, and what attitudes their clients actually notice. In the course of the research, social workers proved to hold the belief that it is of utmost importance to work professionally (29 %), willingly (19 %), and politely (18 %). As far as clients are concerned, they value most such qualities as professionalism (16%), responsibility, civility, and honesty (15 %). Both clients (41 %) and social workers (40%) show particular regard to the principle of humaneness which is understood as a moral value, expressing the principle of humanism applied to everyday human relationships. It embraces a large number of qualities: goodwill, respect for people, sympathy with and trust in them, nobility, self-denial for the sake of others, and enhances modesty, honour, and sincerity. All the positive human qualities, expressing sociality, spirituality, solidarity, compassion, goodwill, goodness, honesty, justice, moral feelings and the like, are ascribed to the term of humanism.
