The years 1940-1941 was a painful and complicated period for the prosecutor’s office of Lithuania and, therefore, it is difficult to write about it without the heartache. Our grandfathers patently and diligently shaped the system of the prosecutor’s office, trained prosecutors and their assistants of high skills and competences, created the framework, prepared and implemented the laws and other legal acts necessary for adequate functioning of the system of the prosecutor’s office. And suddenly, or to be more precise - within six months - the system which had been created, nurtured and elaborated many years, was ruined, "cast aside". The prosecutors and their assistants, who had honestly worked for their country, were declared unreliable and later persecuted and exiled to Siberia. Their positions were occupied by illiterate persons who were loyal to the Soviet regime and had no slightest understanding about the law, to say nothing about the prosecutor’s office. After the prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Lithuania had been destroyed, an institution of the Soviet prosecutor’s office type was hastily created, which lost its independence following the incorporation of Lithuania into the Soviet Union and became a part of the system of the prosecutor’s office of the Soviet Union, unconditionally executing the laws of the Soviet Union, instructions of the Prosecutor General of the Soviet Union, acting in compliance with the criminal codes of the RSFSR.
